Track AI crawlers like GPTBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot

More people now find websites through ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity. Those tools send crawlers to read your pages first, and normal analytics can't see them because crawlers don't run JavaScript. Datasense shows which AI crawlers visit, what they read and how often.

What you see about GPTBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot traffic

Which companies and crawlers

Requests broken down by company, like OpenAI, Anthropic, Perplexity, Google and Microsoft, and by crawler, like GPTBot, ChatGPT-User, OAI-SearchBot, ClaudeBot, Claude-User and PerplexityBot.

Why they came

Each crawler is sorted into a type. AI answers are fetches made live because someone asked an assistant about your page. Indexing keeps search and answer engines up to date. Training collects pages for AI models. Other covers SEO tools and link previews.

Which pages they read

See the pages crawlers request most, and how often they fetch robots.txt, llms.txt and your sitemaps. With the Express, Cloudflare or HTTP recipe, you also see the pages they asked for that returned a 404.

Spoofed requests hidden

Anyone can pretend to be GPTBot. Datasense checks each request's IP against the ranges the crawler's company publishes and hides the ones that don't match. You can switch to IP-verified only, or show everything.

How to track AI crawlers on your site

  1. Step 1

    Start a Pro trial

Bot tracking is on Pro and Team. Pro comes with a 14-day free trial. Add your site: the tracking script handles visitors, but crawlers skip JavaScript, so they need one more step.

  2. Step 2

Add a few lines to your server

Copy the recipe for Next.js, Express, a Cloudflare Worker or any backend. It's a plain fetch call with no package to install. It reports in the background and never slows your pages.

  3. Step 3

    Open the Bot traffic page

See requests over time, by type, company, crawler and page. Click any row to filter the whole page by it.

What it doesn't do

So you know before you sign up.

  • It's on Pro and Team. The free plan doesn't include it.
  • It needs a few lines of server code, so a purely static host with no server or edge functions can't report crawlers.
  • Some companies, like Anthropic, don't publish IP ranges. Their crawlers still count, but they can't be IP-verified.
  • It reports crawlers. It doesn't block them. Use robots.txt or your firewall for that.
  • It shows what AI crawlers read, not whether an AI answer mentioned or linked to you.

Questions people ask

Analytics scripts run in the browser, and crawlers don't run JavaScript. So they never load the script. Datasense counts them from your server instead, with a few lines of code.
