See revenue by traffic source

Visitors are nice. Paying customers are the point. Datasense links each payment to the visit that led to it, so you can see which referrers, campaigns and pages bring in money. It works with Stripe, Dodo Payments or any provider that sends a webhook.

Stripe revenue analytics next to your traffic

Revenue next to visitors

The main dashboard shows revenue, conversion rate and revenue per visitor beside your visitor count, with revenue on the same chart. Each one compares to the previous period.

Sources and campaigns sorted by money

Sort referrers and UTM campaigns by revenue instead of visitors. A source with few visits but many sales stops hiding at the bottom of the list.

Every filter applies

Filter by a page, country, device or browser and revenue follows. Click google.com and you see the revenue that visits from google.com brought in.

Refunds, renewals and trials

Send a refund and revenue drops by that amount. Mark renewals and free trials so a customer is counted once, on their first real payment. Each payment also shows in that visitor's profile.

How to set up revenue attribution with Stripe

  1. Step 1

    Create a secret API key

In your site's settings. Your server uses it to report payments. It never goes in browser code.

  2. Step 2

    Send the session to checkout

When a visitor starts checkout, pass window.datasense.sessionId() to your server along with the order.

  3. Step 3

    Keep it on the checkout

Store it as metadata on the Stripe or Dodo Payments checkout session, or with the order in your own database.

  4. Step 4

    Report payments from your webhook

When the payment succeeds, post the amount, currency, payment ID and session to Datasense. Repeated webhooks are ignored, so retries are safe.

What it doesn't do

So you know before you sign up.

  • There's no one-click Stripe connection yet. You add a few lines to your checkout and your webhook.
  • Dashboards only add up payments in US dollars for now. Payments in other currencies are stored but not summed.
  • A payment is credited to the visit where checkout started. Credit isn't split across a customer's earlier visits.
  • It shows revenue by source. It doesn't report MRR, churn or lifetime value.

Questions people ask

Your checkout carries the visitor's Datasense session ID to your payment provider as metadata. When your webhook reports the payment with that ID, Datasense links it to the visit, and to the referrer and campaign that started it.
