Measure revenue from Reddit
Find out whether a subreddit sends real buyers or just curious readers, and which posts convert.
3 min read
Reddit can send a flood of visitors from one good comment. Whether any of them buy is a different question, and it's the one that decides if Reddit is worth your time.
Why this matters
Community traffic is cheap in money and expensive in time. If Reddit visitors convert, it's one of your best channels. If they don't, an hour spent there is an hour taken from something that works.
Why most analytics tools can't tell you
Most tools show reddit.com as a referrer with a visit count, and stop there. Reddit's apps often don't send a referrer at all, so a chunk of its traffic hides in Direct.
How Datasense does it
Datasense shows reddit.com on the Sources card with its revenue. Tag the links you post yourself with a campaign and each thread gets its own line on the Campaigns tab.
How to do it
- 1Connect your payment provider in Settings → Revenue: Stripe, Polar, Lemon Squeezy, Paddle or Dodo Payments, with an API key. Datasense registers the webhook and imports your last year of payments. Any other provider works through the Payments API.
- 2When you share a link, add ?utm_source=reddit&utm_campaign=r-saas-launch (one campaign per thread).
- 3On the Sources card, check reddit.com's visitors and revenue, and the Campaigns tab for your tagged threads.
- 4Click reddit.com to filter the dashboard and see which pages Reddit visitors read.
Tag links you share with UTM parameters (?utm_source=…&utm_campaign=…), so visits from apps and emails don't collapse into Direct.
Turn it into action
- Keep posting where threads bring customers, not just upvotes.
- If Reddit sends visits but no revenue, try linking to a page that matches the thread's question more closely.
- Watch the Realtime page right after you post to see the traffic arrive.
