Track traffic from ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity
See how many visitors and customers AI assistants send you, and which pages they recommend.
4 min read
More people now ask ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity or Gemini instead of searching. When an assistant cites your site, some of them click. That traffic is new, growing, and invisible in most analytics tools.
Why this matters
AI answers are becoming a real acquisition channel. Knowing how many visitors and customers they send tells you whether to invest in being cited, and which pages assistants already trust.
Why most analytics tools can't tell you
Many tools lump AI referrals into Referral or Direct, and none of them see the assistant itself reading your pages, because its crawler doesn't run JavaScript.
How Datasense does it
Visits from assistants show up in Datasense under their own domains, such as chatgpt.com, perplexity.ai, claude.ai and gemini.google.com, with revenue next to them. On Pro and Team, bot traffic tracking also shows the other side: the crawlers fetching your pages when a user asks about you.
How to do it
- 1On the Sources card, look for chatgpt.com, perplexity.ai, claude.ai, gemini.google.com and copilot.microsoft.com.
- 2Click one to filter the dashboard and see which pages its visitors landed on.
- 3With revenue connected, sort by Revenue to see whether AI visitors buy.
- 4On Pro or Team, set up bot traffic tracking and open the Bot traffic page. The AI answers category counts assistants fetching your pages live for a user.
Turn it into action
- The pages AI visitors land on are the ones assistants cite. Keep them accurate and up to date.
- Pages crawlers fetch often but that send no visitors may answer the question without a reason to click. Give them one.
- Check that robots.txt and your firewall don't block AI crawlers you want to be cited by.
Good to know
- Assistants don't always send a referrer, so some AI traffic still shows as Direct.
